Photographer of the year competition 2012.http://www.randelljohnphotography.com/photographer-year-2012/
I wasn’t sure if I should write this post or not as self publicity sort of goes against the grain, but unfortunately if I don’t blow my own trumpet then no ones going to do it for me, and in a very competitive market place, it would be remiss of me not to.
So here goes – You may have read my previous post, about the Gold Award I won in the SWPP’s monthly image competition.
Well I had an e-mail from their head office earlier on in the week informing me that the photograph has been entered into their prestigious ‘Photographer Of The Year’ contest.
I was really surprised at this news, for two reasons. Firstly I wouldn’t consider myself to be an architectural photography specialist and secondly the circumstances in which I took the shot.
I was literally sitting in The Senydd’s cafeteria having a nice Latte, and admiring the craftsmanship of the wonderful ceiling, when I thought it would be a good idea to take a snap of the interior with my camera.
It really was a snap shot as well – No Tripod, hand-held (actually held with one hand), whilst sitting in a chair, bracing the camera with my elbow on the table I was sitting at.
Besides that, after checking the EXIF data, I shot this at 70mm – 1/40 sec @ f5.6 and at an ISO of 800.
In reality it should have been a bit of a blurry mess, but my hands must have been really steady on this particular day, it’s a good job I was only drinking a Latte and not a double espresso then.
They say that photography is all about Light, Lens and Luck – On this occasion I tend to agree. 🙂
